Some Arcane Archer Polls

In planning out some of the details for the Arcane Archer mod, I found myself undecided in several areas and interested in what you, the player, thought about a few things.

For those of you interested in playing this mod I would love if you could take a few minutes and answer some short polls for me, to help me get a better feel for your playstyle and what you’d like to see in this mod.

I feel it is important for different types of ranged weapons to have both advantages and disadvantages when compared to each other.  The current plan is for the following:

  • Longbows – Greatest range, moderate damage, moderate speed, slightly higher fatigue.  Bonus to Armor Penetration – Strength based
  • Shortbows – Shorter range, higher damage, faster speed – Dexterity based
  • Warbows – Slightly longer range than a shortbow, comparable damage, slightly slower speed – Strength & Dexterity based
  • Crossbows – Shortest range of all, highest damage, slowest speed.  Bonus to Armor Penetration – Strength Based

The mod will include new items for to acquire, including new weapons, armor, and other items.

While the mod will include all these new items, I am also considering doing a re-balance of existing archery items.

The Arcane Archer specialization will be available to Warriors and Rogues.

When I think of the Arcane Archer I think of bows, not crossbows.  I’m considering making the use of actual bows a requirement for the specialization.

    I really look forward to this mod, at the moment, bows are simply too weak to be useful, you can just take a morrigan or wynne and she does as much damages with a simple staff (without considering the spells that make them more useful than a simple rogue with a mega-weak bow)

    I’d like to use item(bow)-rebalance as a module separated from core mods. By doing so, player can choose whether or not to install it.

    I love this, I can’t believe they didn’t have as much a concentration on the D&D ranger/arcane archer sets.

    The dsamage/range changes above are nice, but of course, I’m looking forward more to things like enchanted arrows (sustained ability, etc).

    On the same page (well, another one nearby), we also don’t see a lot of variation between swords and axes etc.

    One thing to note – Arcane Archers should probably have some system of lowering threat levels, or hiding.

    Oh, and also, maybe a revision of special arrow types (Fire Arrow etc) so they aren’t just vendor food (though I presume you’ve already considered). Either the way Shale works… or just more powerful.

    I am playing an arcane “archer” (using the in-game arcane warrior)… lame… oh how it is lame. My Ranger-archer-rogue is far better suited to the bow. The arcane warrior is so frackin’ nerfed. I can’t believe I wasted this much time making an arcane warrior.
