Auto Highlight – Version 1.2 Released

Auto Highlight

Makes placeables, and optionally creatures, highlighted by floating the object’s name above it.

Download: Dragon Age NexusDAMods.

  • v1.2 (11/25/2009) – Two new INI settings added. ShowHero and ShowFollowers.
  • v1.2 (11/25/2009) – Fixed AddIn blocking trap detection routines. Rogues should detect traps again.
  • v1.2 (11/25/2009) – Fixed bug with INI settings not working after first load. Whenever a new game is started, or a save game is loaded, new values will be read from the INI
  • v1.1 (11/23/2009) – Rewrote core code for much more robust handling of objects.
  • v1.1 (11/23/2009) – Information objects like books and scrolls should now highlight.
  • v1.1 (11/23/2009) – Static objects that give items like Herbs should now highlight.
  • v1.0 (11/22/2009) – Initial release.

This AddIn can be configured by adding options to the DragonAge.ini file.
By default this file is located in:
My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Settings\DragonAge.ini

Open the file and at the very end of the file paste the following text:

Set ShowCreatures to 1 if you want creatures to be highlighted as well.
Set ShowTags to 1 to see the item’s internal game tag. This is useful for modders.
Set distance to how many meters away you want to highlight objects. Farther distances may affect perfrmance!
Set duration to how long you want the name about placeables to remain before refreshing. See note below.

NOTE: The AddIn will not display the name over placeables that have nothing inside them to loot. However, when you loot the items out of a placeable, the name will still be floating above it until such time as the name is “refreshed” by the script. By default this is every 45 seconds, which means you are usually gone. If you want placeables you loot to have their name dropped more quickly, you can set the duration much lower. However, lower settings will cause the name to drop for a few seconds between refreshes.

1. Use DAUpdater.exe (located in your Dragon Age install directory, in the bin_ship subdirextory) and select the DAZip file.
2. Select the AddIn in the list and click install.
3. Once the progress says “Installed.”, exit DAUpdater and run the game.
4. On the main menu, select “Downloadedable Content”, and then select the “Installed Content” tab.
5. Ensure that the AddIn is enabled.

Currently there is no user-friendly way to un-install a DAZip based Addin, but the AddIn can be disabled.
1. Run the game and on the main menu select “Downloadable Content”, and then select the “Installed Content” tab.
2. Find the AddIn in the list and Un-check it to disable the AddIn.

This mod should be fully compatible with the base game.

Can you highlight names of usable objects while hiding main interface?
I like to play full screen without the main intrface when I explore, but there are no names of objects…

Probably not. When you hide the UI you essentially turn off ALL UI elements including those used to highlight the objects.

I see. Anyway, thanks for the mod. DAO is a game with very strong “personality”, best rpg untill now for me, even thought i dislike guns, so i may not be fair about fallout 3 and mass effect…

you don’t need mod to do it just if you owe joystick or something that has a throttle.

assign in device configurator “tab” to “throttle up” or “down” and here u go

sometimes you need to move throttle in order to “restart it” after dialogue or map reload

    Sorry, I mean Health bar.

and when I set refresh rate to 3, Looks a little odd when many NPC around.

maybe u can refresh at background, and remove empty container tip in UI when player clicked.

I have no common scence in making a mod, sorry about my blah blah.

    Hello, John.
I was wondering: would it be possible to have a DA2 version of this, please? Sadly the DA2 highlight is heavily limited (I think they put a limit of 5m) and forces the player to keep TAB pressed at all times, making it uncomfortable to use.
It would be nice to have an autohighlight without distance limits, because it would make exploring more efficient and less annoying.
